Crashed after engine failure during flight very shortly after take-off from Decimomannu during a bombing practice camp, pilot Flt. Lt. E.A.Seitz ejected safely landing in the Gulf of Asinara. He was picked up by Sardinian fishermen who were heading in to port due to the strong winds. He was given artificial respiration on the boat and was hospitalized in Cagliari for a few days. Pneumonia was a possibility due to the salt water irritation in his lungs. He did suffer a hairline crack in his neck |

Crashed north of Capo della Frasca Range, due to disorientation
(vertigo) of the pilot. After completion of a bomb delivery at the Frasca gunnery range, the pilot initiated a right climbing turn to depart the range. After calling that he was changing radio frequency, the aircraft disappeared. Weather at that time was 5000 to 6000 feet cloud base (broken layer) with showers. Based on witness reports an underwater search was started in the bay north of the range. After several weeks parts of the wreckage were located. It appeared that the pilot made no attempt to eject. |
